Between the Coke (now Coke Zero) 400, Wimbeldon, the swim trials, Yankees/Red Sox, and the track trials, you might not have noticed that the Tour de France started. I like this race, even though it appears year-after-year to be nothing more than a precursor to doping investigations. Perhaps some time out of the spotlight will actually help, lowering the pressure on winners and prompting the sport to get back to basics.
In light news, here is a great review of one man's ride at the L'etape de Tour. The L'Etape is a preview ride that lets amateurs try 1 stage of the tour before the pros go at it. The NYT had a rider there, who blogged the experience. It is quite the read.
