Now, just to be fair, while this is clearly a gaffe, I'm not sure it's a campaign-killer. There IS a completely legit thing he could have been trying to say: "Judaism has a tradition of embracing hard work, and does not eschew material success."

Personally, I think that Gov. Thompson would be a decent Republican candidate: he's a middle-of-the-road sane guy, who was a successful four-term governor. I would think that most Democrats would feel better about him than about most of the Republican field...
